With all the negative commenting you see in The Virginian-Pilot web comments, you’d think that Light Rail existed on its own. That is not the case at all! Starting Sunday, August 7th, HRT will begin bus service to the train stations, to give everyone a chance to get ready for opening day Friday, August 19th. I break down the bus service by station in the list below:
Newtown Road Station
Military Hwy Station
- Route 15 Military Hwy
- Route 23 Princess Anne Rd (Norfolk)
- MAX Route 967 Military Hwy / Virginia Beach / Chesapeake / Newport News (Downtown/Shipyard)
Ingleside Road Station
- This station serves the local neighborhood – no feeder bus service
Ballentine Blvd Station
Brambleton Ave/NSU Station
Harbor Park Station
- This station serves Harbor Park Baseball Stadium as well as the Park & Ride lot at Harbor Park – no feeder bus service
Civic Plaza Station
- Route 6 Liberty St
- Route 7 Downtown/Airport
- Route 8 Tidewater Dr
- Route 17 Granby Street
- Route 45 Portsmouth Blvd
- MAX Route 960 Downtown Norfolk / Virginia Beach Oceanfront
- MAX Route 961 Downtown Norfolk / Hampton / Newport News
MacArthur Square Station
- Route 17 Granby Street (one block walk)
- Route 90 Elizabeth River Ferry (two block walk)
- Note: several other buses pass by along City Hall Avenue, but do not serve MacArthur Square Station
Monticello Station
- Route 17 Granby Street (one block walk)
York Street Station
- Route 44 Turnpike Rd (I do NOT know if a bus stop sign will be placed on Brambleton Ave here or not – Assume Route 44 WILL NOT STOP HERE for now)
Ft Norfolk / Eastern Virginia Medical Center Station
- Route 2 Hampton Blvd
- Route 16 Colley Ave
- Route 17 Granby St/21st Street – LIMITED SERVICE HOURS, SEE SCHEDULE FOR DETAILS
